The Dog The Cock And Fox – Aesop’s fables

the dog the cock and the fox

A Dog and a Cock were best friends, and having spent almost their lives at the farm they wished to see the world and set out on an adventure. Thus, they departed one fine morning and set forward into the woods. Slowly, dawn turned into dusk, yet they had not encountered any adventure. But the need of the hour was to find a spot to rest at for the night.

Habitually, the Cock wanted to stay perched on a treetop so that he could roost at the break of dawn. Thus, the two found a tree, and the cock flew on to a high branch, while the dog went into the hollow trunk and the two spent the night peacefully.

As the first rays of sunshine broke across the dark sky, the Cock sat up on its branch and began to roost out loud, forgetting where he was in that moment. Instead of waking up the farmer, the Cocke woke up a Fox sleeping nearby. Seeing the Cock, the Fox thought about eating it up and slyly approached the tree.

“Oh, dear Cock, welcome to our forest” said the fox, trying to look welcoming.

“Hello Fox, I am delighted to meet you. Go around to my door and my porter will let you in.’ replied the cock.

The fox went around to the opening in the bark, and the dog quickly siezed him.

He had to taste the medicine of his own deception.
