The famous NBA player Nate Robinson, an American basketball player and a boxer, has been dealing with kidney disease for the past 18 years.
He was diagnosed with a kidney disease in 2006 and received dialysis treatment for almost two years in Seattle. The doctors had already warned him about the failure of his kidneys in his 30s, but he never imagined that he would fall ill. Since 2018, Nate has been struggling with his health as his kidneys have failed.
A slight background, Nate is known for his remarkable athleticism and three-time NBA Slam Dunk Contest victories. He played for several teams, including the New York Knicks and Chicago Bulls, and was celebrated for his explosive energy and tenacity despite his shorter stature for an NBA player.
Recently, Nate has opened up about his deteriorating condition while he waits for a kidney donor. He mentions to Men’s Health that it is more complicated for black people like him to get a kidney donor, asking for help and not giving up hope.
Men’s Health revealed that his kidneys are functioning at less than 15 per cent of their optimal capacity and need immediate attention.
The former basketball player looks forward to getting on the Washington State Kidney Transplant waitlist and the national list soon.
He said, ‘I’ve never been a quitter and I ain’t gon’ start now! “I’m gonna be a testimony to somebody. My story doesn’t end here.”
Despite the challenging days he has endured in the past years, Robinson is optimistic about his coming days. He adds to Men’s Health, “I gotta stick around. I want to stay alive for the next 40 years: be a grandpa, see my kids’ kids, take them to the gym, tell them the stories of when I was in the NBA around ’Bron and Kob’ and all these guys. I gotta fight for it.”
Nate misses his old days at the NBA saying that it was fun being up there, his eyes lightening up with excitement. “I really felt like I could fly.”
